SWAT To Replace SARS – The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has announced to the public that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) will now be replaced with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).
This announcement came after Nigerians took to the streets of Nigeria to protest over the harassment, extortion and killings of youths by SARS officers across the country.
However, the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, disbanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) after youths protested which dragged the attention of the Federal Government.
In a statement released today, the IGP stated that SWAT will fill in the gap of SARS whose main role was fighting violent crimes especially robbery and kidnapping.
Members of the SWAT unit will begin their training next week before redeploying them into mainstream policing duties. SWAT To Replace SARS
Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to their social media pages to react over the new announcement. Most of them said there is no difference between the SARS and SWAT because the same officers will still be redeployed.
They also mentioned that it is either they end the new SWAT or they reform the whole Nigerian Police Force.
