Chrissie Hynde Career

She initiated efforts to form a band while in France. However, in 1975, she returned to Cleveland and attempted to establish a band, but her endeavors were unsuccessful. Chrissie took part in an audition for the band 999, although it didn’t lead to success, as she was eventually replaced by Malcolm McLaren in “Masters of Backside.” In 1978, she spent a relatively brief period with the Moors Murderers.

Hynde recorded a demo tape and submitted it to Real Records. Dave Hill assumed the role of the singer’s manager, not only overseeing her career but also covering the rent for her rehearsal space in Covent Garden, London. Following his advice, she proceeded to assemble a band, recruiting Pete Farndon, James Honeyman-Scott, and Martin Chambers. This collaborative effort resulted in the formation of the band known as The Pretenders.

The band unveiled its debut single in January 1979, which achieved the No. 33 spot on the UK charts. Their second single, released later in 1979, enjoyed significant success. The band followed up with their second studio album, “Pretenders II.” Tragically, in 1982, the band encountered the loss of Honeyman-Scott due to a drug overdose. The group proceeded to record their new album, “Learning to Crawl,” with fresh additions to the lineup. Notable songs from the album include “Don’t Get Me Wrong” and “My Babe.”

The band embarked on numerous worldwide tours. In 2002, they unveiled a new album under the name “Loose Screw.” After a six-year gap, another album titled “Break up the Concrete” was released. They collaborated with Dan Auerbach for the album “Alone.” In 2016, the singer served as the opening act for Stevie Nicks. On June 10, 2014, she released an album called “Stockholm,” featuring artists like Neil Young and John McEnroe.
